Debris has been accumulating along the Narragansett Bay shoreline for decades. In the past, people used the bay to dispose of anything and everything. Most of it is man made, but even Mother Nature has left some behind.

Congressman Kennedy supports the efforts of "Clean The Bay", a non-profit, citizens group dedicated to removing the debris and restoring the Rhode Island coastline to its pristine condition. For more information, contact: cleanthebay.org

What You Should Know About the Avian Flu
Bird flu is an infection caused by avian (bird) influenza (flu) viruses. These flu viruses occur naturally among birds. Wild birds worldwide carry the viruses in their intestines, but usually do not get sick from them. However, bird flu is very contagious among birds and can make some domesticated birds, including chickens, ducks, and turkeys, very sick and kill them.
Bird flu viruses do not usually infect humans, but more than 100 confirmed cases of human infection with bird flu viruses have occurred since 1997. If you would like more information about Avian Flu contact:Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Kennedy, Ramstad Announce Historic Passage of Paul Wellstone Mental Health Parity Bill

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy (D-RI) announced that the House of Representatives passed the Paul Wellstone Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act of 2007. This historic legislation, sponsored jointly by Kennedy and Congressman Jim Ramstad (R-MN), would improve the overall health of all Americans by granting greater access to mental health and addiction treatment and prohibiting health insurers from placing discriminatory restrictions on treatment.  The legislation was cosponsored by 274 Members of Congress and passed with a strong bipartisan vote of 268 to148.

“Today is a great day for the millions of Americans whose lives are impacted by mental illness and substance abuse,” said Representative Kennedy.  “It is my hope that the passage of this bill will help to erase the stigma associated with mental illness and substance abuse, a stigma which has prevented far too many Americans from seeking out the treatment they need.”
